Experiment On Vapor Lighting For Highway
Port Washington Wisconsin unveiled its first sodium vapor lighting for highways at the intersection of Highways 141 and 57 five miles south of the city. State highway commission officials and Wisconsin Gas and Electric Company officers praised the system which spans about a mile with four lights. Each lamp outputs 10,000 lumens and 16,500 feet of underground cable supported the project completed in five weeks at a cost of 16000 dollars. Officials said northbound traffic moved at about 85 cars every five minutes as the by pass crossing improved safety.
