Immigration officials puzzle over dispatches claiming John Lind renewed talks with Vera Cruz authorities and would remain days. Washington on August 29 reports no new troop movements. Brigadier General Bliss of the southern department has full authority to relocate units under his command without Washington orders and can call on other departments for reinforcements if needed.
Three Fort Simpson trappers returned from the far north and disputed explorer Stefansson's claim of discovering a tribe of Eskimos. They said they met Eskimos whiter than a white man, spent three weeks with a tribe of about three hundred, and noted other stranger tribes on the Arctic Ocean shores. Stefansson arrived at the same time.
A well dressed man wearing valuable jewelry and carrying money was found wandering the streets of Sparta Wisconsin on August 29. He cannot recall his name or events since being drugged at Fargo North Dakota and may have been put on a train unconscious. Sparta police contacted Fargo authorities to identify him and locate his family.
James J. Town, former president of the Chicago change and a notable figure in Static Circles, died early today after being stricken while in Doplax yesterday.

New York August 29 The 83 year old Hilholito Uriarte longtime Spanish consul and his wife are dead in a blaze started by lighting a cigar in their apartments. The fire laid waste to rooms filled with curios from many lands. Uriarte was found by a window sill and his wife fell four stories after mistaking an air stack for a fire escape.
The first conference of teachers in Wisconsin continuation schools will be held in Madison on September 15 16 and 17. Attendees include city apprentices permit industrial and evening class instructors. Speakers include H F Leverenz L Evans E W Schultz C P Cary and C J Mitchell discussing school employer relations and apprenticeship programs. The event is under the State Superintendent and State Board of Industrial Education.
Thos. H. Warrington of Sacramento testified as father of Marsha Warrington in the Caminetti trial in San Francisco. He said he believed "Whitman" was a respectable suitor for his daughter and did not suspect him of being an emissary for Maury J. Diggs.
Co B Henschel chief owner of Gutsch Brewing protested before the Board of Review against a $25,000 property valuation. He contends part of the property is undervalued and should be lowered. He said a statement would be prepared.
William Reis of this city a teamster for Herr and Braun narrowly escaped death early this morning when a team of horses driven by Abraham Braun were frightened by an engine and bolted onto Reis wagon the horses hooves narrowly missing the driver. Braun and his employee were driving near the south yards when a locomotive appeared on the crossing causing the horses to rear abruptly.
In Sherbrooke Aug 29 the New York man known as Gentleman Roger Thompson was granted $500 bail after appearing on charges of aiding Harry K. Thaw to flee Matteawan. He faces a stealth entry charge into Canada, adjourned to September 3 as Thaw counsel seek further action.
Basilios Athanasiou, represented by guardian ad litem, sues for 7000 dollars plus costs after alleging a 1912 incident at the Garton Toy Company where a floor truck caused injuries in the elevator area. The minor, 19, claims a broken jaw, eleven teeth knocked out, facial lacerations, and hearing impairment.
William Blanke as guardian of Conrad Blanke sues Paul Blanke of Plymouth in district court. He holds a promissory note for 1500 dollars and claims no principal has been paid plus 4 percent annual interest from December 21, 1913, to now. The suit seeks recovery of principal and interest.
Lake Geneva Wisconsin August 29 three Central College Pella Iowa students were drowned when their rowboat capsized off Williams Bay near a YMCA camp. Lucy King survived, pulled from the water in serious condition after the others disappeared. The sea ran high with offshore winds. details from the YWCA camp describe a harrowing struggle as rescue efforts followed.
New York, Aug 29. The steamer Bergermeister Hackman carrying 600000 gallons of crude oil and benzine in its hold burned for most of last night and today, then sank this afternoon. A hiss accompanied the sinking, heard blocks away.
Patterson New Jersey August 29 Romance during the long silk mills strike has revived with work resuming. So many workers flocked to the marriage bureau that the registrar kept his office open tonight to handle the rush. During the strike few licenses were issued.
Papers filed for a 62 lot expansion in Sheboygan Falls with the Register of Deeds. Nine lots belong to Henry Piper and 43 to Anton Van Ouwerkerk, both Falls residents. The parcels adjoin the northwest city edge. River Park will be built west of town, fronting the Sheboygan river. Lot sales begin tomorrow.
Washington Aug. 29 Senator Hitchcock a Democrat denounced the Senate caucus as a political machine and refused to be found in all features of the tariff bill. The fight over the income tax section opened with Hitchcock calling the action hasty and secret and objecting to an amendment for a heavy penalty tax on trusts and monopolies. The amendment was defeated 41 to 30 with Hitchcock the sole Democrat in support.
General satisfaction over the Wilson message was voiced by General Carranza's brother acting head of the constitutionalists at Pedras Negras. He spoke for his brother who is fighting at Korean.
Franz Zorn reports Sheboygan population growth to about 30 000 over two years as he canvasses houses for the new city directory. The county list is ready, with publication planned for November and distribution in January. Residents who move should notify him before printing to update the book.
