Three of five members of a special investigating committee filed a report with the House charging Samuel T. Ansell Col John E. Hunt and Col C C Cresson with conspiracy in Grover Bergdoll’s escape from Governors Island. The majority seeks Ansell barred from practice while exonerating Major Bruce Campbell. The minority says no proof supports the conspiracy charge and assigns responsibility to Adjutant General Warriss and other officers for inadequate guard and supervision.
United Press reports Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, once a millionaire draft dodger, is believed in Germany and is writing a book about his escape. Excerpts from a letter to his Philadelphia mother are included, alleging graft among U.S. officials. Bergdoll claims a full exposure will reveal a swindle and wake the American public.
The lake’s water temperature rises to a high level with 70 degrees reported by keeper Ingvald Olson at 2 pm. After weeks of cool weather a strong east wind shifts surface water to the west shore, allowing bathing again as air reaches 76 degrees.
Joseph H. Brewer of Kelsey-Brewer in Grand Rapids leads plans for an $18,000,000 merger consolidating Merchant's Heat and Light Indianapolis Indiana Railways and Light Kokomo Elkhart Valparaiso Wabash Valley Clinton Putnam Electric Cayuga into the Indiana Electric corporation. The move aims to link 200 towns on a single power loop with a large central plant and low rates, expanding northern Wisconsin utility networks and supplying Minnesota and the Dakotas with excess power from Wissota dam.
James G. Ford, co owner of the Vogue Boot Shop, suffered internal injuries in a Milwaukee county auto crash Saturday night. He was taken to Milwaukee for treatment after a Chevrolet owned by Wellington Rawling left the road near Lincoln avenue and North Eighth street and hit a tree. Rawling was only slightly injured and Ford's condition was not updated.
Madison reports seventeen appointments under the teachers retirement fund law by Governor Blaine. The list includes Lillian L. Chloupek of Manito woc appointed to the public school retirement board for the term ending January 1, 1923.
Biner Knutson a 36 year old employee at Mitchell Motor Company was electrocuted this morning while connecting an extension cord powering a wagon loader at the plant. The incident occurred in Racine. Authorities investigate the accident.
Jake Kametka, a hermit, confessed to Sheriff Fred Schroeder that he killed Carl Wenzauer, wealthy Mosinee area farmer, firing buckshot through a window while Wenzauer read a newspaper. Motive cited as revenge over a disputed farm portion. The body was found Tuesday. Kametka arraigned and bound over to the circuit court with $25,000 bail.
Mike Prepster of 606 Jefferson Avenue accused James Tetzlaff of Two Rivers of stealing $28 during Homecoming carnival. The case collapsed as Prepster admitted uncertainty and was ordered to pay costs. he then issued a note to Tetzlaff for over eleven dollars.
Washington Chairman Lasker of the United States Shipping Board denied reports he would resign saying I will stick with the job until it is finished I am not a quitter.

Prohibition officers and police seized the Canadian yacht Venice with 96 cases of liquor. They arrested the captain, four crew members, three men loading liquor on trucks, and four women passengers. Names include Capt. William Curry and Norman Turner. The seizure followed a tip at the ore dock and orders from Federal Prohibition officials to crack down on liquor traffic.
United States seeks reparations for American lives lost in the great war as part of a postwar treaty with Germany. Berlin resents the demands but expects to sign the peace agreement soon. Germany says it cannot exceed terms of the Versailles treaty and notes any Lusitania deaths would implicate allied nations for payment.
Klondike Wisconsin resident David Bovick was stopped by two armed men while en route to Oconto. The pair held him at gunpoint and took several dollars in loose change.

Senator Ashhurst a Democrat from Arizona says he will not take part in further talks on the anti beer bill. He cites the conferees intent to weaken the Stanley amendment which the Senate adopted unanimously.
An Australian visitor says America cannot both keep a merchant marine and a high tariff, arguing no nation has done so. He notes that a high tariff with a high exchange rate blocks foreign trade as America aims to lead in global commerce. Myron Schwartz of Two Rivers was at the Mullen Tire & Vulcanizing shop today.
Eight girls aged 10 to 16 were seriously hurt and one fatally injured when a porch collapsed from the E. E. Smith apartment over the Ripon Steam Laundry. Helen Davison, 12, was taken to St. Agnes hospital, Fond du Lac, in critical condition. The girls were holding a club meeting at the time.
Springfield officials announce a plan for a joint trial on embezzlement and misuse of funds. Governor Lens Small and banker Verne Curtis will file a joint petition September 6 asking for a venue change from Sangamon County and request to be tried together. Edgar Prescher was admitted to St. Nicholas Hospital yesterday from his home at 1305 8S Nineteenth Street.
