Bogalusa Louisiana twins Billy and Jack Adams born to Mr and Mrs Williams Adams are thought by local doctors to be the smallest babies living. Billy weighed 11 ounces at birth and Jack 17. Their six older siblings are normal size and the twins appear healthy.
At sunset on August 7 observers at Lick Observatory near San Jose California reported a bright object brighter than Venus near the sun. Five witnesses described the object three degrees north and one degree south of the sun. Observatory experts think it may be the nucleus of a bright comet and note German reports support this identification.
William Wyllie turned over a shotgun found on Santa Monica Beach to authorities. The weapon is linked to the Beverly Glen murder of John Belton Kennedy, believed killed at midnight Friday. An assailant reportedly fled by car from Beverly Glen to Santa Monica and disposed of the gun in the ocean.
A Chicago and Northwestern passenger train No 153 struck a car at a crossing one mile south of Cedar Grove injuring 30 year old Anthony Huibregtse who resided on a nearby farm. The car was demolished and Huibregtse was taken to a Cedar Grove physician then to a hospital in Sheboygan. The engine pilot was damaged with shattered glass and investigators blamed the collision on the car approaching the crossing.
The U S Hawk arrived for homecoming having captured the biggest prize of the Spanish War, taking a larger share of prize money than any war effort. The Clyde built vessel later served naval militia duties on the Great Lakes and training roles in Wisconsin and beyond. Lieutenant Ralph S. Smith commands, with 67 enlisted and six officers aboard.
