Kohler Co officials approve immediate addition to the pottery department at Kohler village costing 1,000,000 dollars. A three story concrete building 690 by 80 feet with a 14 foot basement will house two Dressler tunnel kilns over 400 feet long each, investing about 250,000 dollars per kiln. The wiring and transit of ware takes about four days through the kilns to reach workable temperature up to 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Total Kohler pottery expansion will bring employment for several hundred more workers, with the division expected to employ 600 to 700 in total. The plant sources all ball and china clays from Cornwall inland, using all-water transport via the St Lawrence. The pottery unit, including the new facilities, will represent roughly 3.5 million dollars, separate from other Kohler units like foundries, enameling inks, brass works, and electric lighting plants.
