Old time Sheboygan horsemen recall Dad Walsh the peer of horsemen and the driving club days. They celebrate Derby nights, Vetrix and Maurine wins, midnight tests, and parades after state meets. The era ended, but memories of the brass band, red fire, and lively contests endure.
The Gentlemen's Driving Club of Sheboygan invites participation in the second annual Derby Day Parade and Matinee Races on Friday June 20 1902. Races at 2:00 p m feature horses with colorful owner names and colors. Parade forms at the Post Office at 12 30 p m with club colors Cardinal Red and Royal Blue and prizes and a post parade race program at the Driving Park. next races on July 4.

Charbeori Bel April 12 Red posters urged men to strike for manhood suffrage and equal votes. The socialist message called for laying down tools on Monday when more than 300000 Belgian men were expected to quit work.
London reports Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the suffragette movement, freed from prison on probation after nine days of hunger strike while serving three years penal servitude. She must report to police at intervals and can be arrested without a warrant for any misdemeanor, with full term to follow if violated. Phillis Brady and Millicent Dean also sentenced to six weeks in prison.
Rome April 12 the pope suffered a relapse with tracheal bronchitis as his fever rose to 103 and his condition was described grave. Only sisters and a niece were notified as nursing continued and Vatican notes say the pope never stopped three days ago but returned today with aggravated thorax catarrh.
Washington April 12 Democrats started a fight over the sugar tariff in the Underwood bill. Opponents of free raw sugar in three years began a strong stand against the provision. Anti-free wool Democrats from about twenty states aim to exempt from the caucus pledge and keep the battle in the House.
