Use lawn grasses to fight crab grass

Homeowners troubled by crab grass this year may have caused it by frequent clipping. Victor Burealow, extension agronomist at Wisconsin College of Agriculture, says a good stand of blue grass and other lawn grasses, properly watered, fertilized, and clipped, will crowd out crab grass starting in June and July. He recommends mowing at about two inches to prevent crab grass, an annual weed, from thriving in hot July and August.
