Public Land Bill Sparks Hunting Grounds Debate

The state conservation committee voted against passage of bill 178, sponsored by the executive council. It would raise resident hunting licenses from 1 to 2 dollars to fund acquisition or lease of lands for public hunting and fishing grounds mainly in the south. Northern opposition argues funds largely ignore their region and impose costs on northern residents.
