Grand Jury findings on the City of Shafter operations
Kern County Grand Jury visited Shafter on August 1 2009 to review city operations, ethics training, ADA compliance, and Homeland Security I 9 verification. Findings note 15000 population including 500 inmates, 650 local businesses, 140 employees with 510 new hires, and a 30 million dollar budget. ADA parking violation observed. recommendations urge ADA facility survey and public posting of the report. The report cites a four year old disaster plan update, a new animal control shelter due by September 2009, and a completed broadband phase linking city buildings. Council members receive small stipends and travel reimbursements.
