Clifford Cliff Griffith 69 died September 24 after a life in Shafter and Earlimart with a 35 year tenure at Shafter Concrete. A Free Will Baptist service was held September 28 at Peters Funeral Home. Survived by wife Lady Bess, children Douglas Kerry Sandra Wayne Randy Steven Jimmi Denice and Woody, twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, sister Etta Freeman of Exeter. He was born June 27 1935 in Cogar Oklahoma to William and Gladys Griffith.

Born February 3 1906 in Coahuila Mexico he moved to Texas then California and worked at Handel and Wilson Farms until 1972 leaving a large family legacy. Donations to Cancer Society and Optimal Hospice.

A graveside service for Arlene Peters 75 was held September 24 2004 at Shafter Memorial Park with a memorial at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church Pastor Pat Coyle officiating Peters born in Hepburn Saskatchewan Canada to Frederick and Nettie Strauss later moved to Shafter in 1953 She married Robert Peters in 1956 and worked at Mercy Hospital Dr Saslow and Shafter Convalescent Hospital until 1996 She was active in church and community and is survived by husband Robert children grandchildren and several relatives Donations urged to Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church Building Fund.

Alejandro Quiroz of Buttonwillow and more than 2,100 Marines and Sailors with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit recently conducted operations in Najaf Iraq while based at Forward Operating Base Hotel The unit deployed with the Belleau Wood Expeditionary Strike Group to the Western Pacific and Central Command in support of the global war on terrorism The MEU is built around a reinforced infantry battalion a combat service support element a reinforced helicopter squadron and a command element ready for amphibious heliborne and boat raids tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel noncombatant evacuation and humanitarian missions
