Routine matters occupy the Shafter City Council over two and a half hours. New bids for the Trail Valley Highway drain and Santa Fe tracks were not opened, with bids to be reissued October 25. An easement with Adams Hardfacing and storage use agreement were approved. Various licenses were issued, including auto wrecking yard for J. C. The Planned Parenthood Association of Kern County invites the public to visit its new exhibit at the County Fair from Sept 27 to Oct 3. Located along Building 3’s west wall, the booth runs Friday through Sunday noon to 10. Volunteers, led by nurses, will explain family planning and local resources. Artist Nelson Van Judah designed and built the display with aid from Mrs. Shirley Teitworth and board members including Mrs. Phyllis Beham and Mrs. Gene Howard.

Funeral Services for Dorcie Davis
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. for 17 year old Dorcie Dale Davis of Shafter son of Mr and Mrs Imar Davis. He was killed when the car he rode in struck the back of a pipe truck twenty miles south of Colusa. Agees Family Funeral Home is in charge and burial will be at Shafter Memorial Park. Jerry Alexander of Shafter, who rode with Davis, is hospitalized in Colusa in satisfactory condition.
