Los Angeles and Tulare sign wastewater deal for power plant
A letter of intent signed Sept 22 by the Tulare Lake Drainage District and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power outlines guidelines for using agricultural wastewater for the San Joaquin Nuclear Project cooling. The plan foresees about 80 000 acre feet annually for a two unit SMP plant with return of concentrated waste to the drainage district and environmental review under CEQA. Local agencies will collect, store, and dispose of wastewater while LADWP funds design and operations and may seek additional wastewater sources with TLDD consent.
