Elliott Backs Dams To End Valley Water Crisis

At a Hanford meeting Congress, Alfred Elliott of the Tenth District accused President Truman of withholding flood control dams funded by Congress for the Kern and Kings rivers and other streams feeding the Southern San Joaquin Valley. He urged immediate release of funds for flood control and water conservation, warning the valley faces dire economic consequences without rapid dam construction. He blamed the delay on a long running feud between the Army Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation and urged action to prevent further water shortage harms to farms and towns.
