Richland School Board to Meet October 5 in Music Building
In response to Ford's statements, Marlene Wilson told the board teachers were notified. The issue began after a request for information from Dr Vera Stone. RTA advised that dropping action would waive future information rights. The board, after a closed session, approved the pay raise request. The next meeting is set for Oct 5 at 7 30 p.m. to address Ford and Patino questions.

Cotton Planting Outlook Presses Buyers and Growers
Tom Cherry of CPCSD reported a strong planting season with minimal weather risk and announced no planting seed assessment for public agency research for the first time in over 30 years. He forecast San Joaquin Valley cotton acreage rising 15 to 17 percent to about 1,350,000 acres as demand remains high and premiums reach up to 15 cents per pound above similar growths.

Floy Margaret Pearson 75 former Shafter resident now of Bakersfield died recently. Born in Clarksville Arkansas she married Edward Pearson in 1926. They moved to Shafter in 1952. She belonged to the Southern Baptist Church. Surviving are son Wesley Pearson and daughter Carolyn Harlander both of Bakersfield two brothers and three grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Mennonite Brethren Church in Shafter for Rev. Christian Frederick Ummel age 75 who died September 18 in Bakersfield after a brief illness. He founded Park Lane Chapel in 1970 and received humanitarian and citizen of the year honors from the Shafter Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Survivors include wife Rheba, daughter Gwendom Reimer and extended family. Memorials may go to Bakersfield Rescue Mission or Missionary Gospel Fellowship.
