Bird Library brings cheer with songbirds to Kalamazoo invalids
In Kalamazoo Michigan crippled veteran E Reed operates a Bird Library in his home basement with over 100 canaries and other songbirds. He loans birds to shut ins and invalids, requiring a patient postcard and physician note for health safeguards. Reed recalls injuries and months of radio fatigue before discovering uplifting birds. The program funds cage feed and care, but the singing brings real joy to patients and families alike.
