Richland Moves Toward Technology in RISD Schools
Richland District embraces a district wide technology program as RISD begins new school year with Back to School nights. Primary, Intermediate and Junior High events showcased classwork, student projects and computer games. KCSS provides email and internet through rented business and personnel packages while wiring upgrades enable future learning enhancements. Knapp notes the plan will be gradual, costly, but aims for all 110 classrooms to have computers.

Robert McDaniel, SHS Class of 1960, retires from Kern County service Aug 2 1996 to launch a Shafter private practice at 558 Central Ave focusing on criminal and family law. Previously probation officer for Kern County and deputy DA for Bakersfield and Delano, he returns home with a large family and deep local ties.

Race for the White Gold at Buttonwillow Cotton Festival
The Buttonwillow Cotton and Harvest Festival on September 21 1996 features a parade at 11 a.m. led by the grand marshal and junior cotton, ending at the park where rides, booths, Melodrama performances, magicians and cotton gin tours unfold. A deep pit barbecue runs from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the community is invited.
