Hugh D Johnston Buried Monday at Yuma
Hugh D Johnston 79 formerly of Shafter died Saturday in a Tucson nursing home after illness. Services were held Monday at Johnson Mortuary with burial at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. He was born January 4 1890 in Arkansas and lived in Shafter from 1942 to 1950. He then farmed near Yuma and retired about ten years ago. He is survived by his wife Aura and five children Ruth Watson Hill Kathryn Holland Ed Johnston Alvin Johnston and Leon Johnston. His son Don died last June.

Kern County captured first sweepstakes and the California Award for the most outstanding county feature exhibit at the Los Angeles County Fair. The diversity exhibit showcased agricultural industrial mineral and recreational resources and earned Kern an extra 400 cash premiums, totaling over 1600. Keith Skidmore designed the exhibit under the Board of Trade supervision.
