Shafter teacher earns Bakersfield Californian scholarship
Arlene Kuprienko math teacher at Shafter High School in the Kern High School District received a $250 Bakersfield Californian scholarship. She was chosen from many applicants at the new teacher open house on August 24 at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office. The newspaper, funded by publisher Ginger Moorhouse, supports education through the program.

Destefani pleads no contest to four wiretap counts
Destefani pled no contest in the middle of the People’s case to four felony counts of wiretapping under Penal Code 631. He faces up to five years in prison and minimum felony probation.
