City completes water to new school and booster station project

The city finished the airport water facility work with Witcher Electric at 175 467 dollars, well under a 1 2 million budget. Offsite improvements extended water service to school boundaries, with shared material costs of 70 421 dollars. Inspection, backfill, and disinfection of the pipeline are complete, and sewer work is slated to start within three months.

City approves two trucks for four departments budget

Shafter Public Works 2004 2005 budget funds two half ton trucks at 23000 each, split among Streets Parks Water Operations and Wastewater Operations. Bids from Richland Chevrolet 2004 model 17910 81 and Holiday Ford 2005 model 18073 88 meet final price including taxes. City council approved the purchase at last week’s meeting.

Lerdo Highway Rebuild Planned By City Of Shafter

The City of Shafter will reconstruct four Lerdo Highway lanes from Beach to Bim and the east slow lane from Manne to Fim using federal funds. The city council must authorize the city engineer to sign the Certification of Way form. Bid process to start with a tentative saving date planned.

Shafter Eyes Alliance With North West Container Services

Shafter California plans a partnership with North West Container Services of Portland to advance a California Integrated Logistics Center near ITTC. City Manager John Guinn says the alliance would attract major rail and ocean liner activity between Oakland and Shafter, leveraging 25 years of experience.

Shafter approves new street names many from Enns family

Property owner John Enns of Shafter sponsors six names from his family for new streets in three tracts west of Schnaidt north of Lerdo Highway. Names include Enns Road Martha Avenue Loewen Street Ryan Drive Emily Way and Molly Court with three grandchildren among them. Other names come from Sh after residents and historical society selections. County 9 1 1 and Shafter Police have been notified.

Richland reports 2003 CHKS safety survey results

The Richland School District released findings from the 2003 Elementary School California Healthy Kids Survey with 5th graders at 48 percent participation and 7th graders at 51 percent. Results cover tobacco and drug use, alcohol, violence, bullying, safety perceptions, weight, and exercise, highlighting subgroups and risks to guide prevention programs.
