Stepp and Peair win honors at California State Fair
Monica Stepp of the Fruitvale 4-H Dog Club showed her poodle Peair at the California State Fair and earned top honors in her age group. She won first and second in showmanship and second in obedience, then captured an overall first in the Round Robin run-off. Her mother Glenda Stepp and leader Mrs. Claudia Burk also showed dogs in adults’ showmanship, with Mrs. Stepp placing third and Mrs. Burk fourth.

Ruth Francis Johns 69 Dies. Graveside Rites Held in Shafter
Ruth Francis Johns of McKittrick died September 11 after a long illness at Bakersfield Hospital. Graveside funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Shafter Cemetery with Rev. HD Rutledge officiating. A Arkansas native, she had resided in the area 11 years and was a charter member and past president of the Arvin American Legion Auxiliary Post 8809. Survivors include her husband Raymond and her sons.
