Table grapes praised in state's pesticide report
California table grape industry receives high marks from the CDFA in its annual Pesticide Residue Report. Three quarters of grape samples showed no residues and the rest were well within tolerances set by the EPA. Bruce Obbink notes more samples were taken this year, with grapes among the top four in sample count. The state spends over 40 million annually on comprehensive pesticide regulation, including evaluation, licensing, enforcement, environmental monitoring, and testing of produce. The industry plans to continue reducing pesticide use through pest management, biological controls, and pest resistant rootstocks.
