Charles Barry new manager of the Shafter migratory camp says the project has clear community value. He compares Shafter with Brawley where eight months of spending by residents and government support totaled about 78,700 dollars and 50,000 dollars respectively, with Farm Security Administration funds of 41,000 dollars. Barry notes ongoing maintenance spending and local purchases, plus sanitary quarters and education programs, and stresses openness and cooperation as migrants are cared for rather than the problem solved.

With penalties up to seven cents a pound and prospects of eight to ten cents future prices, many chose destruction over harvest. Local readers note schools reopen Monday with all grammar schools in the area resuming term. Farmers report improved outlook with cotton, raisins, and butter fat up. Deer hunting stories from Kolbenstetters and Rogers, plus social events and visits from Long Beach to Shafter are recounted. Public notices include oil drilling halt at Rosedale and planned cooperative cotton grower meeting in San Francisco.
