God's House of Prayer seeks land for Kern County facility
Elizabeth Johnson leads the drive to locate two 40 acre parcels or one 80 acre tract between Shafter and Bakersfield for a self contained community. The project includes school, church, fire station, homes for orphans and staff with renovations ongoing in Bakersfield and tax exempt status granted by state and federal governments.

CPCSD Invites Cotton Growers to 52nd Meeting at Shafter
CPCSD extends a blanket invitation to San Joaquin Valley cotton growers and industry reps for its 52nd annual meeting and field day on Sept. 14 at the Shafter research station. About 60 national cotton breeders will tour facilities and join a barbecue luncheon from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The program includes reports by CPCSD officials and Dr. Steve Oakley. The station is located at 30597 Jack Ave., two and a half miles north of Shafter in Kern County.
