Vernon Pierce, long time Shafter volunteer, is recommended for the paid fire engineer post opening with 24 hour coverage. If chosen he will close Pierce Jewelers and devote full time, sharing forty eight on forty eight off with Edwin Bender.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Burton and children Larry Don and Darlene return to Shafter from Idaho and Oregon. They visited Mrs. Burton’s parents in Caldwell and Kenneth Woolery’s family in Eugene, Oregon, then stayed two days at Joaquin Miller guest ranch in Canyon City enjoying swimming hiking and horseback riding.
Charley Glenn and his wife are moving to Healdsburg California after 26 years in Shafter. Clifford Glenn runs a stock ranch nearby and Charley plans to build houses and raise farm animals there. The Glenn children live in Sebastopol Salinas and Seaside, with Edna in Seaside.
A follow up study on the Feasibility of Primary Textile Mills in California says finishing facilities in California are adequate to support mill operations. The Kern County Board of Trade notes the report finds no justification for a manufacturer to avoid a California plant due to lack of finishing capacity and highlights potential ties with local finishers.
San Joaquin Valley and southern water agency representatives in Bakersfield urge flexible repayment terms for state Feather River Project contracts. They form a study committee and call for review by all affected agencies before finalizing with the Metropolitan Water District. A second meeting is planned in Bakersfield next week with the State Department of Water Resources.
