Kern County Land Company faces future amid oil land wealth
The Kern County Land Company stands as a major West Coast land holder with rich oil reserves and vast east Kern farmland. Its water rights control about 80 percent of Kern River supplies, raising questions about future breakups under American demand for smaller ownership and local development. Major W R Pengelli endorses Minter Field as a permanent AAF training site citing strategic west coast location. A unified Kern district plan seeks fair water cost sharing across districts to stabilize underground levels, with 50 cent district tax and requests for 40 000 acre feet first class and 60 000 second class water.
