How Children Are Assigned in Richland Schools
Richland uses a mixed class grouping system with five grade levels per building. Two sixth grade rooms split to form two seventh rooms while keeping comparable class sizes and abilities. Decisions on group placement are done by a conference between the principal and teachers to balance brightness and averages across rooms. This plan, adopted two years ago after Morrisett survey input, is preferred over earlier fixed or fully scrambled methods.

Penner Family Vacation Includes Santa Cruz Visit
The Henry Penner family paused their travels for a home interval, with Evelyn and Albert at Camp Gains while the parents and Lydia visited former Shafter residents Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Neufeld in Santa Cruz. They reported the Neufelds planned an indefinite stay in Canada for an ill relative, and the trip included time with Alpha Walraven, a former Shafter resident. They also toured Lark Ellen Home for underprivileged boys, where most residents were away on an excursion. Mrs. Walraven will teach again in Baldwin Park, and the Mays, with their infant son and ailing wife, were assisted by her. The Brooks Institute break allowed Donald Nicol to remain with his parents, with brother Kenneth joining camp activities.
