The council approved a notice of intent for Proposition 84 funded projects including Well 16 replacement, Citywide TCP treatment, and Well 15 arsenic treatment. A preannexation water service agreement on Fresno Avenue was authorized. A Lerdo Highway paving budget amendment of 450,000 was approved with 250,000 for phase one and 200,000 for phase two. The next meeting is Nov 3 at 7 p.m. in City Hall.
The Richland School District invites middle school students to join a new Journalism Club. About 10 students from sixth to eighth grade will learn journalism basics at the Shafter Youth Center and start writing stories about local happenings and people. Members include Damian Mejia Amador Rincon Angela Valladares Cindia Valladares Ivan Ruelas Kyle Lamar and Felipe Osorio.
The annual North Kern Bike-a-Thon at Westside Park brings together 85 participants including students and families to race laps for cash donations. The event raises about $5,000 yearly, supporting the school’s general fund and activities like free dress days and treats.
