Richland PTA Barbecue and Carnival Set for Saturday
The Richland PTA hosts a barbecue from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and a carnival from 12 to 4 p.m. behind the District Office on Saturday October 26. Barbecue tickets are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children with meals including deep pit barbecue cole slaw beans roll and beverage. Carnival attractions include a fire engine ride cake walk make up booth fishing hole and a Haunted House. Tickets available at school offices PTA members Humpty Dumpty Johnsons Department Store or at the door.

Shafter Teen Nominated for American Farmer Degree
John Pavietich, 19, of Shafter, California, was nominated by the California FFA Association for the American Farmer Degree, the National FFA Organization’s highest honor. The nomination was approved virtually by the National FFA Board of Directors, with a final vote by 114 student delegates at the 58th National FFA Convention in Kansas City.

Shafter High freshmen formed the official FFA team Kristie Krause Kristen Zachary and Stephanie Cortez with alternates Darren Bogie Alan Torigiani Virginia Cummings Kari Heinsohn and Heath Williams They placed third overall Krause was fourth high Zachary seventh and Cortez eighth individually Other October activities include a Kern Inyo Sectional cotton workshop October 22 at the Bakersfield school farm and a October 26 farm workday at Shafter High School All FFA members must attend to be eligible for the Progress Trip.

Family Physicians Meet at Anaheim AAFP Assembly
Dr Thomas C White attended the Annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians in Anaheim in October 2013. More than 4,000 family physicians from around the country gathered for clinical seminars on 30 topics and exhibits. The AAFP, based in Kansas City, has 57,000 members required to complete 150 hours of continuing education every three years.
