Maple PTA hosts a program of songs and rhythmic games by Sheila Ramey’s kindergarten and first grade class in the school cafetorium on Tuesday evening October 12. Doris Karber aided. piano by Ramey. approval of minutes and treasurer's report moved to committee.
Membership chairman announced enrollment goals for the year with rewards for students who bring in parents’ dues. Hospitality chairman likened staff to a football squad, with Supt. Ketelsen as coach, urging teamwork and parent support. New superintendent thanked PTA for playground equipment funding and services, noted nonpermitted motor bikes, and welcomed new families while thanking former administrators.
Graveside services were held Sunday at Shafter Memorial Park for William R. Briggs 33 of 636 Minter Ave Shafter who died Friday in Bakersfield. Rev Edward M Rhoades officiated with burial following. Briggs born May 13 1938 in Gustavus Ohio came to California in 1964 and worked as a groom and truck driver. Survivors include widow Patricia two sons Scott Estes and Michael Thomas Briggs a daughter Pamela Estes his mother Mary Briggs of Geneva Ohio a brother Thomas Briggs of Hiram Ohio three nephews and one niece. Agee Family Funeral Home Shafter had charge.
Maple School trustees met October 11 and endorsed the California Dental Service Insurance plan for insuring children against accidental loss of teeth with a $3 application fee. The board also discussed KEEP environmental education, recreation commission representation, facility use by the 4-H Club, and water system inspections.
Mrs. Timothy Peters former Miss Ramona Buhler visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Buhler and shared memories of a Europe trip with her husband and his parents. The Peters, a U S Air Force captain, returned to duty in Wichita Kansas after a vacation through Germany Spain Switzerland and England. Also present were Mrs. Buhler’s Ford Frantz of Shafter Mr. and Mrs. Russell Messick and family of Wasco and Mrs. John Reimer. The Messicks are recovering from a summer auto accident and a back brace remains. Sugar beet growers district 10 Califor nia Beet Growers Association meet Nov 9 Bakersfield at 430 pm with a members only session at 330 pm. Annual banquet at Prenees Cafe announced by Malcolm Young.
Dr LaHaye, with 23 years of ministry in counseling, leads a marriage seminar at Scott Memorial Baptist Church San Diego. The event uses overhead projections and visual aids to teach Biblical principles for improving interpersonal relationships. Friday 7 00 p.m.
