Shafter High welcomes Miss Yvette Ernaga as the new French teacher. Born near Biarritz France she moved to Bakersfield seven years ago. She completed a UCLA Romance Languages BA last February and is pursuing a masters while teaching French levels 9 10 and 11 and two periods of first physical education.

The Shafter Oil Painting Class sponsored by the Shafter Women’s Club invites new members. Under Al Howell’s guidance the group meets Thursdays at the Veterans Memorial Hall from 1 30 p m to 4 p m. Howell runs a Bakersfield studio and teaches in Wasco and Shafter.

Dance Club Opens First Season Event
The Shafter Dance Club held its first dance of the season on Saturday October 8 at the Veterans Memorial Hall with a baseball theme directed by the executive board. President Mr and Mrs Robert Bongberg chaired the officers alongside treasurer Mr and Mrs Jack Thompson secretary Mr and Mrs Roger Thuman and directors Mr and Mrs John Fuller and Mr and Mrs Harvey Neuman. Larry Fosters Orchestra provided music and new members include C R Burnquist Jack Cuthere ll Jim Del Rio John Hill Wayne Horn Jack Kennath James Paul Russell Paul Robert Somers H B Walker and Vernon Wilson.
