Mech Day Invites Kern Growers to Shafter Station
Twenty years ago on October 11 1951 Kern County cotton growers were invited to a 10 am October 30 field day at the United States Cotton Field Station in Shafter to view ongoing research work. The Shafter town council approved a new American Legion clubhouse. Eagle Scout Kenneth Nicol received a bronze palm at a Maple PTA dinner in the lunchroom. Shafter strongman Rolf A Jacobsen the 225 pound potato king will compete tomorrow in the Kern County Shrine Club Golf Tournament in the heavyweight division.

Mr and Mrs Vernon Kroeker celebrate a new grandson named Jeffrey Neil born October 4 to Janice Kroeker and Dr Jaryl Ollenberger of Buhler Kansas. The couple's first child and first grandchild, with Ruben and Lizzie Ollenberger as paternal grandparents and Charles Ollenberger as great grandfather. The mother grew up in Shafter and attended Tabor College. the father is an optometrist nearing military service completion in July.
