Betty Wells to lead in Pomona College Blythe Spirits
Miss Betty Wells a 1945 graduate who recently entered Pomona College has a chance to play Ruth in the Noel Coward play Blythe Spirits presented by Pomona College on October 26 and 27. The show has played across Europe and will be staged at the Pasadena Playhouse in November. Wells is the daughter of Mrs Marion Wells a former local teacher.

Chinese Training Detachment To Open At Minter Field
An advance party of 15 Chinese officers led by Major H. F. Chang arrived two weeks ago to establish a large Chinese training detach ment at Minter Field. By mid October a substantial group of students will join as instructors set up a primary flying course and a basic flying school, reflecting years of Chinese military experience.

Mennonite Brethren Church Holds Annual Meeting
The Mennonite Brethren Church of Shafter held its annual business meeting with Rev. J. J. Toews presiding. Officers elected include Solomon Bartel as assistant to the pastor, D. L. Schellenberg secretary, H. A. Janzen assistant secretary, E. J. Peters treasurer, Otto Becker Sunday school superintendent, A. F. Isaac assistant, A. F. Bergen choir director, Elbert Frantz assistant director, and Miss Alice Nikkel pianist. The treasurer reported 1945 receipts of 38,414.62, with five year comparisons showing growth from 10,878.05 in 1941. Funds support missions, schools, Reedley old folks home, war relief, and Red Cross. A 70-page church annual for 1945 was presented.
