Pioneer life and public service mark long career of farmer Charlie Mitchell
Charles Mitchell born in Hugo Oklahoma on a dairy farm moved to Shafter in 1948. He farmed with his father for decades then joined Pioneer Equipment sales. He held multiple farm and civic roles including Kern County Farm Bureau president and Kern County Fair Board appointee. He served Republican circles, attended national conventions, and was named Farmer of the Year by Shafter Chamber. He died September 27 2009 surrounded by family. His survivors include Beverly Debbie Lori David and grandchildren. Public viewing October 1 and services October 2 in Shafter.
