Setting the records straight in baseball statistics
Fred Davis argues that recent claims of record-breaking seasons, like the 1998 Yankees, are misleading due to differing season lengths and competition. He cites 1954 Indians and 1927 Yankees as stronger historical benchmarks, notes post season records count only recent history, and recalls baseball’s golden era before World War II when talent concentrated and many players served in WWII. He urges enjoying stats with understanding of context.
