Dial a Ride boosts service with radio system
Weagraff notes a two way radio helps riders reach police quickly. Vierra says ridership rose after removing a dispatcher. Only Shafter and Tehachapi use this system, cutting wait times to five to thirty minutes. Dial-a-Ride serves Wasco and Bakersfield beyond city limits, with wheelchair access and Dial-a-Ride Spanish. Fares differ for elderly and handicapped, and riders must call 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
