The Automobile Club of Southern California reports that of 149000 motor busses operating in the United States, 85168 are school busses. City service uses 42152 busses while 21839 handle inter city duties.
A California maker now uses manzanita burl for briar pipes as European briar imports become unavailable. The change follows supply restrictions and cost pressures impacting traditional pipe materials.
Private Neil Duke reports to Keesler Field to begin pre aviation cadet training with the Army Air Forces Training Command. He will spend 28 days there before five months of college work preparing to become an air cadet. Duke will study military fundamentals, drill and marksmanship, first aid, sanitation, camouflage, and air defense.
