Richland Citizens Committee Tackles Cafeteria and Bus Plans
The Richland Citizens Committee discussed the school lunch program and transportation system at its last meeting. Verle Heller presided as co chair, and Mrs Sylvia Baughman outlined the cafeteria story from soup service to government testing and subsidies. The committee noted that pupil participation has fallen to about 55 percent due to price increases, and asked whether continuing the current lunch program justifies the district budget. Kenneth Pipkin described eight buses in regular use with one spare, outlining transportation logistics for students, with the session set to continue on page 2.

The Rotary Club of Shafter joined over 12 000 clubs in 128 regions observing The Rotary Foundation Week November 14 20. H W Kelly was re-elected to the Kern County Health Council as chairman. The Kern County Council met at the General Hospital Auditorium in Bakersfield to discuss facility expansions and relocations. Trans American Hospital Association seeks a 10 bed psychiatric unit in Bakersfield, Memorial Hospital requests maternity ward relocation and 22 beds, Kern Valley Hospital District proposes facility with 13 acute and 10 long term beds in Kern River Valley. A convalescent unit plant was introduced for study.
