City voters may file nomination papers December 6 to December 27 with 20 to 30 signatures. Incumbent City Clerk Bill Johnson seeks one more term before retirement. Banks Grundy and Bert Ware have not stated candidacy. Election date moved to March 5, aligning with state schedule.
Public Works Director Lewis Carroll announced that garbage collection will be suspended on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 22. He noted the public dump will also shift to a make up day for affected areas.

Guest speaker Ted Oliver Foothill High School track coach and Shafter High graduate will speak. Oliver once held Shafter’s two mile school record. The community is invited with no charge. Refreshments will be served.
