The Shafter Press corrects the birth date of former Shafter Police Chief Frank Christensen to March 24 1936. The notice apologizes for the earlier error and any inconvenience caused. The issue also notes a local invitation and a fragmented line about the Shafter Lions and a shoot site event.
The final Shafter Visions Project report was presented at a special Thursday meeting to the City Council. City Manager Wade McKinney called the event a celebration and noted the report was well received with many calls and contacts since Thursday appreciating the work. A Steering Committee had been formed months earlier to direct progress as the year 2000 approaches.
Precinct voting in Shafter reveals distinct patterns as officials tally ballots from PCT 60 to PCT 64. City Council results favor Garry Nelson, Fran Florez, and Jack Colvard with vote shares across precincts, while Johnston and Borchard trail. Official results expected late November.
The Steering Committee highlights creating access to future jobs via training and direct linking of residents to employers. It stresses removing barriers like diploma attainment and developing industrial areas including Minter Field. Public safety remains a high priority as residents note crime safety levels amid rising California trends.
Fragmentary text notes a contest involving Tim Steward and Richards from Wasco with scattered names and figures. Partial lines reference Dolly Parton, a $7,000 jackpot, and a White House performance, but details are garbled, leaving the event, participants, and outcomes uncertain.
Wasco moves into a new City Hall costing 80 000 dollars with furnishings included. Inmates from the Shafter RTC labor on the project from 7 30 a.m. to 2 30 p.m., reducing costs to about 13 000 dollars. The 60 seat council chamber and movable chairs will host five council members and seven planning commission members. The old 1937 building remains repurposed.
