Four Shafter young people narrowly avoid serious injury when a Sacramento bound vegetable truck attempts to pass their car at Lerdo highway and Highway 99. The truck crashes into a telegraph pole, is demolished, but the four occupants Marjorie Grant Mary Grant Kilis Porter and Dick Arnold escape unhurt. A state highway patrolman blames the truck driver for speeding. The truck was owned in Sacramento.

The Division of Fish and Game reports September planting of 5,793,929 trout into lakes and streams and 308,656 salmon. Over 54,000 spiny rayed fish were rescued. Trout sown included rainbow Loch Leven steelhead eastern brook black spotted large lake and golden. Egg totals reached 50,540,331 for trout and 9,583,614 for silver and king salmon.
