Editorial concern over Prop 47 and crime shifts in California
The author questions Prop 47 replacing many felonies with misdemeanors for crimes like firearm theft when under $950, arguing it could increase crime, burden law enforcement, and pressure communities like Bakersfield as deputies cite and release suspects. The piece critiques promised school and victim program funds and fears more vigilantism and unsafe streets.
