Tule fog plagues Wasco area each winter causing crashes
Tule fog rolls over Wasco and the San Joaquin Valley each winter, dropping visibility to near zero and leading to frequent road crashes. The National Weather Service explains fog forms when cool air meets high humidity and ground temperature, with Wasco averaging 24 foggy days yearly and November through March bringing the heaviest reduced visibility. Kern County officials, led by Superintendent Kelly Blanton, prioritize student safety and may close central county schools during extreme fog conditions.
