Fire destroys Tracy Ranch farmhouse in Shafter area
A historic Tracy Ranch home built in 1900 burned late Monday afternoon in the Shafter Buttonwillow district. Firemen estimate damage over 100000 dollars with faulty wiring blamed for starting the blaze. Only the fireplace and chimney remained, and Cecil Tracy resided there at the time.

Dr George Collins Of Shafter Dies After Heart Attack
Dr George Collins 57 an optometrist in Shafter for 26 years died suddenly after a heart attack last Sunday morning at about 11 a.m. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Union Congregational Church of Shafter with burial at Shafter Memorial Park. Widower Leona Collins is seriously ill at Shafter Convalescent Hospital. He suffered two earlier heart attacks in 1972 and on September 12 of this year.

Mini grant funds speech program at Tak Shafter High School
Tak Shafter High School teacher Karen Cain will lead a $500 mini grant to develop a public speaking program at the school. The Office of Instruction and Research of the Kern High School District approved the application, prepared by Cain and assistant principal Evan Jones, among 10 of 46 submissions. Funds cover materials, supplies, and travel with plans for weekly practice and bi monthly tournaments through April.

Opening of Buena Vista Lake Formal Aquatic Park Dedication
