Demand on Trustees Over Santa Fe School Site Sale

Richland School District faced a $4500 demand for injuries from a summer accident involving a district pickup and a private car. The board rejected the claims for Sylvie and Linda Flores and Lee Flores. The case likely moves to court with the district’s insurer defending. Orel J. Elmore was the pickup driver. Bill Turney, a district employee, was a passenger and cannot work. Superintendent Bruce Crawford noted plans to acquire county land for the Santa Fe site and possible additional land if needed. The county budgeted $75,000 for a new Shafter library. Enrollment stood at 1870, up two from last year. The district will borrow $145,000 from the county before tax receipts arrive late December.
