Shafter police investigate a stabbing death at Farmers Co-Op Almond Huller in Shafter. Eddie Gaona, 53, was found dead in the office area after officers responded to a 3:22 a.m. call. Investigators seek leads from named individuals and urge contact with the Shafter Police Department.
The Shafter Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence and driver's license checkpoint on Nov. 4 to remove unlicensed or intoxicated drivers and improve traffic safety. For more information contact Officer Moises Martinez or Sgt. Diana Burnett at 746-6341.
The Shafter Press outlines candidates across multiple races in the upcoming November 7 general election. Incumbents Cathy Prout and Jon Johnston run for Shafter City Council. Richland School Board includes Steve Mann and Deanna Rodriguez-Root among four. Kern High School District has nine candidates for three four-year terms. Danny Gilmore and Nicole Parra vie for 30th Assembly. Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator features Danny Youngblood and incumbent Mack Wimbish. City crews will collect brush and limbs at no cost to residents only during December January and February with pruning and stacking allowed from November 15 for December pickup. Outside these months residents must remove debris at their expense. noncollection months require self disposal at approved sites.
Twenty families attended the Project Family Literacy and Reading Excellence meeting at Golden Oak Elementary to promote reading with kindergartners through third graders. Organized by Marcia Krause with a Target Community Giving Grant, the program guides families through three activity stations focusing on shared reading, reading logs, and engaging storytelling.
