Siemens Attend Tabor Exercise at Tabor College
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Siemens and their children traveled to Hillsboro Kansas for Tabor College commencement exercises and returned Sunday. Miss Anna Frantz, graduate with honors in 1951, accompanied them. William Johnson, former Shafter resident and Tabor professor, presided at the alumni banquet. Ernest Siemens gave the welcome address. Mrs Siemens attended. In Fairview Oklahoma the Siemens marked their 10th wedding anniversary with local friends. Frantz will stay home over the summer to help care for her ailing mother in Maple district.

Basin Creek Fire Draws County Firemen To Mountain Blaze
Shafter crews aided by county firemen battled Basin Creek fire on Tehachapi's Greenhorn mountain during the weekend. Fireman Shewcraft was sent to a Woody brush and grass fire on Greenhorn Mountain while others assisted the Basin Creek response.

Three Homes Saved As Chicken Coop Fire Spreads
Early Tuesday afternoon a chicken pen near three houses on Burbank and Beech avenues burned, but firefighters prevented the blaze from reaching the homes. The chicken pen owned by Paul Martinez was destroyed.

Siemens Wins Maple School Board Post After Tie
Maple district farmer Ruben Siemens won the Maple School District board of trustees seat after a tie was resolved by drawing lots. Siemens defeated incumbent John Wiens and will take office July 1. In Wasco, John J. Peters Jr. beat Henry Voorheis by one vote for a Wasco high school board seat, joining C. O. Knox and Allen Bartel for two openings. Peters takes office July 1.
