Sewage Plant Faces Peak Load During Potato Harvest
Austin Purcell, operator of the large sewage disposal plant on Burbank avenue, notes the potato harvest drives daily inflow to 400000 to 600000 gallons with peaks near two million during peak season. The plant treats sewage through grit chamber, sedimentation tank, digester, and gravel filtration to produce about 90 percent pure irrigation water for fields. Modernization reduced staff from two to one as Purcell now runs the plant solo.
