Model train highlight at Shafter Depot Museum draws visitors
The Shafter Depot Museum showcased a 1949 to 1952 era scale model train donated by Alitha Taylor, widow of Jim Taylor, with two S-Gauge engines and accurate city details. Volunteers Ben Wilson and Robert Romanini prepared the exhibit, aided by a custom oak and glass case by Jim Gloeckler, while Calletano Gutierrez operated the train. The museum also noted $25,000 from the Arkelian Foundation for Green Hotel restoration and a recent $8,000 gift from the Shafter Woman's Club for kitchen appliances. The society seeks more early photos and artifacts to enrich Shafter's history.
