Shafter Council Approves Agreements and Projects in Bid Round
The Shafter City Council approved a new promotional policy, agreed with Kern County to collect special assessments, and switched city employee insurance to Aetna for better benefits and lower costs. They authorized proceeding with the Maple School waterline project, with $400,000 funding on hold, and awarded flooring, kennel, and car enclosure contracts to two firms. Saddleback Southwest homes in Almond Grove Estates will realign drive approaches after paying $2,000, with occupancy certificates withheld until realignment meets city standards. Next meeting set for June 2 at 7 p.m.

Reyes Completes Summer Denver Program Wins Multiple Scholarships
Reyes finished a two week intensive college class program in Denver and will reside in CLUB residential halls this fall. She received scholarships totaling 2 750 from Shafter Women's Club Hall Ambulance Lopez family and Shafter Rotary Club and will graduate tonight May 27 2009 at Shafter High School with classmates.
