Directory recordings move toward California utilities

Pacific Telephone filed the Directory Assistance recording plan with the California Public Utilities Commission on April 14. The plan aims for a 36 percent call reduction, saving about five million dollars annually in Northern California. No layoffs are planned, with attrition and transfers used to adjust staff. The recordings will delay opening three Northern California Directory Assistance offices by at least one year, saving additional capital. A separate travel narrative describes a small island visit with life jackets, shore exploration, and coastal field study activities.
